Older Americans Month 2024

Our three Washoe County senior advisory boards created a tantalizing smorgasbord of events and activities for you to sample during the entire month of May 2024, designated all over the US as Older Ameri and Cans Month (OAM). The OAM theme this year is “Powered by Connection” which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being at all ages. During this month and going forward, make it a habit to join up with others—neighbors, friends, family, and other buddies to try some new fun, social, recreation, entertainment, or learning events together. Share a ride with Taxibucks, Lyft, Uber, or carpool to get there. Have some chats and get to know each other better. Being with others keeps us healthy!

Washoe County printed 3000 booklets in English and 500 in Spanish listing the dates and times of all the local OAM events. You can pick one up on May 1 at the Opening Ceremonies Information Fair at Washoe County 9th Street Senior Center, senior meal sites, county libraries, Reno recreation centers, Sparks Senior Center, and online at Washoe County Senior Services website at https://washoecounty.gov/seniorsrv  or call 775 328 2575 for more information about events and how to access transportation if you need it.
