Expanding Research and Resources to Support Menopause Care

As we get older, health care becomes a much bigger priority.  As an “active senior” I’m grateful that I can still ski, swim, hike, camp, and take my grandkids to Wild Island and enjoy the slides!  I’m also grateful that I have a health care plan like Medicare Advantage that supports my active lifestyle.

These plans are a bit different from traditional Medicare plans, and Congressional members tend to scrutinize them more, which is good to ensure the program is providing seniors with the care they need.  I’m very grateful that Senator Rosen supports Medicare Advantage plans.  She is listening to the over 305,500 Nevadans who are happily enrolled in these programs.

I enrolled in Medicare Advantage a few years ago, and I am happy I did. The program offers better services, better access to care, and more affordable rates than other options on the market, including fee-for-service Medicare. These plans are great for active seniors like me, as they focus on preventive care and encourage me to make healthier choices.

While Senator Rosen has continually supported Medicare Advantage and its enrollees across the state, the Medicare agency went against the will of millions of seniors by proposing harmful policy changes to the program. For the 34 million Americans enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, this health plan is more than just coverage. It provides access to the resources we need every day to live healthy, fulfilled, and active lives.

I am worried that the Medicare agency’s policies could mean higher costs or reductions in the benefits I access on my Medicare Advantage coverage. One of the major attractions of Medicare Advantage is that it is extremely cost-effective, particularly in comparison to fee-for-service Medicare. The all-encompassing nature of Medicare Advantage is also a huge plus, allowing me to access all of my specialists, doctors, and appointments under one plan. The care coordination has been a great tool as well, with a dedicated team of health care professionals ensuring I receive the right care at the right time. This level of support has certainly improved the quality of care I receive.

Despite the reality of growing older, I am grateful my Medicare Advantage plan encourages me to stay active by providing funds to cover the cost of a gym membership and dental care that are so important for long term health. Having an additional budget for over-the-counter drugs, first aid, and other health products every quarter is a great bonus!  It also incentivizes participants to stay on top of vaccines, screenings, and tests to stay healthy and out of the hospital.

I thank the Senator for being a prominent voice for this program.  I urge her and other leaders to continue to fight for us seniors to ensure adequate funding for this program that is a lifeline for millions of Americans who rely on it to help us live our golden years to the fullest.
