The City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department is currently conducting a survey about the services that they provide. We Want Your Opinion is a one-page survey asking those that use, participate, or are considering participation in the recreational opportunities, classes, and events offered by the City of Reno.

The City operates three recreational facilities: Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center, 1301 Valley Rd.; Neil Road Recreation Center, 3925 Neil Rd.; and Teglia’s Paradise Park Activity Center, 2745 Elementary, Reno. The City also offers residents the following facilities: Plumas Street Gym, 475 Monroe St.; The Reno Tennis Center, 2602 Plumas St.; Three pools: Idlewild (seasonal), Traner (seasonal), and Northwest Pool, 2925 Apollo Wy., which is year-round.

There is also a year-round pool at Evelyn Mount and the City of Reno owns Sky Tavern Ski area. Public input is very important to the Parks and Recreation Department as they try to provide the best service to the citizenry of Reno. Parks and Rec for Seniors, under its Health and Wellness Division, provides a wide variety of activities that provide mental stimulation, physical activity, and socialization. All things that provide Seniors with a healthier and more active life.

Please take the time to fill out the survey! This survey will be available year-round so people who use the Parks and Rec facilities can provide input to the department and keep abreast of the needs and concerns of the residents.

If you are a low- or fixed-income Senior, you can participate in many of the recreational opportunities offered through Reno Parks and Rec by applying for and receiving a City of Reno Scholarship. Having a scholarship provides a Senior with a Health and Wellness Pass, granting them the ability to participate in 27 different recreational opportunities for free. A Scholarship also gives discounts on many programs that have a fee associated with them, like the new Field Trip Series or maybe Brunch and Movie (returning soon), to classes and other activities.

To apply for a scholarship, you can visit any of the three Parks and Rec facilities and pick one up there. The application is also available online at Reno.gov/parksandrec, then look on the left-hand column for Important Information, and click on it. Then select fee assistance/scholarship and fill out the application. All you need with the application is proof of residency in the City of Reno and proof of income. If you have questions on scholarships, you can contact Nora at (775) 334-2260.

Scholarships run from January through December of each year. If you have a scholarship, it will shortly be time to renew it for 2023. Scholarship holders should receive a letter toward the end of the month about renewing.
