The Washoe County Senior Center held its Grand Opening May 16, after undergoing remodeling for a few months.
Senior center representatives, community leaders, members of the Washoe County Commission, and regular senior center visitors attended a ribbon cutting and tour of the $2.8 million remodel. The senior center upgrades include new lighting, flooring, ceilings, new paint, remodeling of the kitchen, pool room, card room, the library, the main dining room, and entrance.
Built in the 1980s, the senior center had been due for a serious renovation for some time. Improvements also included ADA remodeling of doorways that include the rest rooms. The kitchen needed expansion to ccommodate the growing number of congregate and home delivered meals served daily.
OnMed CareStation Unveiled was a special tech-enabled care delivery and medical diagnostic center called OnMed CareStation. Sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Nevada Medicaid and OnMed, the CareStation features an in door large screen described as a “clinic-in-a-box” that provides people consultations with a licensed clinician, that reviews a person’s health via high-definition audio-video capabilities that can diagnosis, prescribe medicine, and make referrals to those with more serious medical conditions.
The senior center will host the OnMed unit for a year. The OnMed CareStation is possible, thanks to a $400,000 donation.
