Get outside
Fall is great time to get outdoors, the temperatures are cooler. Pick a path and go for a walk, invite a friend to join you. You can
admire the fall colors and maybe find some treasures, colorful leaves, pine cones.
Practice Balance and Good Posture
Sip your favorite type of Tea
Drink more tea – black or green – hot, iced. Why? – Credit goes to tea that is high in anti-inflammatory compounds such as catechins, theaflavins and thearubigins in both types of tea, which fight nerve damage and muscle weakness that can worsen balance over time.
Better Balance the easy way
People who drank three-8oz servings of green or black tea per day scored better on tests for balance and stability than those who rarely drank the brews.
Correct alignment and posture are essential to prevent falls and injuries. A good Mantra to say each day, “Chest up, shoulder blades back.”
Keep your feet happy with these simple exercises
Sitting in a chair
Flex your feet up and down.
Ankle circles – 6 circles in one direction and then reverse.
Move your foot over a tennis ball – it will work out tight areas, gently.
Did you know when you flex your toes up it helps move blood up to your heart.
Savor afternoon sunshine – Exposing your face, neck, hands and arms to midday sun for 8 to 10 minutes produces enough vitamin D to safeguard against deficiency. Why is this important? A study of woman with healthy vitamin D levels out performed their D deficient peers at keeping their balance while standing and walking. The vitamin not only strengthens muscles to increase stability, it also bolsters signals between the brain and spinal cord that optimize your equilibrium. WOW!
Apples are in Season
Enjoy biting into a fresh crisp apple.
Make an apple pie or apple cinnamon bread.
Remember to try to get at least 30-40 minutes of activity in your day. Even 1-2 minutes of movement every hour, throughout the day has a BIG IMPACT!
